With children out of school during Spring Break, many families take the opportunity to go on vacation. Tampa Bay is a great area to visit, check out this great site for ideas!

Here are some Spring Break safety tips to help keep your family safe and focused on having fun.

BE SMART WHEN TRAVELING DURING SPRING BREAK

Spring Break often brings increased traffic on the roads and large crowds to popular tourist destinations. This can lead to a multitude of safety concerns during travel and while enjoying your vacation.

If you’re going to be on the road or in the air for Spring Break, keep these travel tips in mind:

  • Continue to take COVID-19 precautions. This includes staying updated on vaccines, wearing a well-fitted mask when needed and frequently washing your hands or using hand sanitizer. Be sure to check your travel destination for COVID-related health notices and guidelines.

  • Keep your vehicle stocked for an emergency. This includes a first aid kit and emergency supplies, such as nonperishable food and drinking water. Check that your vehicle has jumper cables and tools to change a flat tire.

  • Slow down and drive defensively. You might be in an unfamiliar area yourself or surrounded by other drivers new to the area. Additionally, many destinations are hot spots for drunk drivers during Spring Break. So, allow plenty of time for travel and remove distractions while driving (e.g. texting and eating).

Here are some other Spring Break safety tips to share with your family and friends.

  • Actively supervise children around water, including at hotel swimming pools and at the lake, river or ocean.

  • Avoid excess drinking and using illicit substances. Don’t accept drinks from people you don’t know and keep an eye on your drink at all times when in a public setting.

  • Establish a buddy system and designate a meet-up location in case of separation.

  • Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing to avoid sunburns and harmful effects of UV rays. Wear protective gear for outdoor adventures, such as helmets and life jackets.

Additionally, we recommend reviewing the skills of CPR in case you’re called into action while on Spring Break.
